I feel that using a digital meter to troubleshoot boatanchors (except for
checking resistor values) will cause one more trouble. State of the art
servicing back in those days was dine with analog meters and all the service
manual voltage charts were derived from analog meter readings. Also many
digital meters will not give an instantenous reading which may be required in
some cases as has been pointed out already.
A good example of this is trying to measure filament voltage on a pair if
3-500zs after installing step start protection. By the time the digital meter
got settled down, the step start had already kicked in and it was impossible
to read the initial filament voltage. The little Triplett 310 was right there
with the correct answer.
