[Hallicrafters] Silver faced SX 28s?

Lloyd, Rick and all:

I know of three SX-28's with silver front panels. These are 'not' chrome'
plating, as Rick suggests. Efforts to find documentation as to why these were
made, if they in fact were made by Hallicrafters, has been less than productive.
Details and facts seem to be scarce, indeed.

It has been suggested, but not verified, that they were prototypes. But
prototypes for what? They do not appear to be electrically different than the
standard SX-28 models.

I am currently talking with several former Hallicrafters engineers. I will pose
this question to them. However, realistically, no one engineer, or other former
employee in some other capacity, knows all of what went on at Hallicrafters
over the decades. Even those who once knew a lot, may have forgotten much over
the decades too. But I have learned that sometimes details come in from the most
unlikely sources, so I discount no one and no thing.

Yes Lloyd, ther is a chrome sx-28. It has been spotted ocasionally.
I will bet that many more black face sx-28's have a hart of crome, or
some kind
of plating. A friend of mine has a nsa sp-600 hammerlund and it was the
same way.
after removing the bad paint job a beautifull chrome front! It must be
some
kind of goverment thing. So polish it up and enjoy.

P.S. Maybe it's nickle?
