A good friend on mine was a navigator in B-24's.  He was on the Ploesti 
raid and flew a total of 52 missions over Europe, some of the later ones 
in a B-24 equipped (I believe) as above.  They would fly alone at night 
and watch the RADAR gear to learn what they could about German night 
fighter capabilities.  When the fighter closed on them they would do 
some hard maneuvers to shake him off, then continue on their way.

Tony stayed in the Air Force and flew another 52 missions in B-29's over 
Korea.  About ten years ago he died in a bicycling accident.  When your 
time's up....
