    Also, look up Stoddard Solvent. This stuff is widely used as a 
cleaning solvent. It was originally designed as a low inflammability 
solvent for dry cleaning. It is widely available under several names. 
Quite effective as a degreaser.
    In the past trichroroethylene was the solvent of choice for many 
purposes but is now extremely difficult to obtain and expensive because 
it is an environmental hazard. There is really no single substitute for 
it. Some old books will suggest carbon tetrachloride, don't use it, its 
very toxic. I am not sure its even available any more.
