[GreenKeys] Range Finder Setting/Distortion usage?

Thanks Harold. I think the range finders on machines themselves are now set pretty well. Still, however, from an off-the-air recording they don't print exactly the same. Probably 99% the same but curious why not 100%.

I wonder... the ASR (which seems less accurate than the KSR) has an internal loop supply and relay to key the page printer. This relay also has a bias adjustment. I have that adjustment at 30mA as per some notes from the guy I bought it from. Could this bias current in the ASR play a part in these two machines behaving slightly differently? If so, then I can play around with adjusting the bias current on the ASR (I guess I could play with it regardless, but thought I'd get the skinny from the experts who know.

What is the difference between max and min range on the two machines? The range finder adjusts the sample time that is ideally centered in the bit time for each bit. Ideally the difference between max and min is high. On the model 15, I think the center of the range should ideally be around 60.
With optimum adjustment, the range span should be 80 "points." (see
https://www.navy-radio.com/manuals/tty/jh/ttyman1/ttd.pdf#page=12 ). On your machine, the range span appears to be about 60 points and the center is 80. There are a lot of things that can affect the range, one being speed. Does this have a synchronous or governed motor? Is the speed correct? Are the gears correct? One way to tell would be to hit a key (such as R or Y with alternating bits) and capture it on a single sweep scope. Each bit should be 22 ms for 60 wpm.

Good luck!

Harold
