I will be daring and include my reply to you also
to the group ... ;))
I'd say it depends on the application the M28 set is
being used for ... commercially, for example, it's quite
possible traffic came in on a 100wpm channel to the
reperf and was then sent out to a different channel using
the ASR TD at let's say 60wpm ... basically a 'cheap'
M28 RT set ...
For 'average' ham use, I would think that one would
want the reperf in the same loop the printer is receiving
at, and the op would just turn on the reperf if he wanted
to save some traffic on tape ... or maybe a stunt box code
in the LP would activate the LPR to make tape -- but the
LPR would have to be at the same speed as the printer,
of course.
Since your LPR has a speed shifter gear, you might want
to consider setting up loops with a jack field (hey, I have
a super big one available!!) [really, would only need a few
jacks] ... with two separate loops ... if you wanted to receive
an oddball speed off the air, plug LPR into that receiving
loop; if you want it to work with the ASR plug it into the
local ASR loop. Speed changing LPR is like a Cadillac ;))
Lucky to have one.
As for not seeing it in M28 wiring diagrams, there were
so many different ways the equipment could be used --
especially for Leased Circuits (like I used to work with for
ITT WorldComm) every customer had a different wiring
setup ... the engineer (me) would draw up the schematic and
wiring plans based on what the sales guys dreamed up !!
Unless your ASR also has a speed shifter, my suggestion
is to keep the LPR separate from the loop on the ASR
printer/TD ... so WHEN you want to do something with a
different speed the LPR is there to copy it.
