[GreenKeys] Teletype DRPE tuned reed mechanism - Two cents more

A local ham friend has an unusual RT set. The 'perf' is a high speed device,
with little resemblance to any other 'perf/reperf' I've ever seen. He started to
take it apart and got sidetracked and does not remember what became of some
of the parts.

The RT set was also different from the one I owned in that it had two motors.
One was part of the TD system, and the other one drove the perf/reperf which
might have been a BRPE. It was definitely different from other such devices.

I may have a few photos of it. I know I took a few the last time I saw him, but
locating them might be a chore. If there is any interest, let me know off list and
I will start a search for the photo(s) I took of it. I know that none of the photos
would be of 'great detail', just a few from a few feet away at different angles,
maybe. I suspect that this item is still sitting in his garage, getting dirtier and
closer to the 'trash gondola', if it has not already met this fate.

First used, I believe, in FAA system called BDIS. There was ADIS, an
acronym for Automatic Data Interchange System, which was for weather
data, which FAA calls Service A. So BDIS was for Service B, which is
flight plans and other kinds of directed messages, and is a sort of
pun on ADIS.

Second use in a 750 wpm tape-to-tape system, Dataspeed Type V. I suspect
very few of the receivers were sold, as the main use of this system was
for data collection where the transmitter was at an out office location
and a computer connected direct to the modem at the receive location.

Another use was in Long Lines Project 176 high speed system for the
government. I think it was here that the eddy current problem cropped
up.
