Hi Paul,

My first thought was exactly as you say but when I was setting up my
Creed 444 on i-Telex, I was advised by Henning DF3OE that CR/LF/LTRS
should be the first three characters in the A/B sequence as what ever
happens, the machine will start printing the A/B message on a new line.
I only have spaces for 20 characters and you have to be careful to make
your A/B code fit within that number.

Regarding sensors, I don't know what sensors would provide outputs on a
US Teletype machine - that is a question for some knowledgeable GK guys
to answer.
For British Creed machines, the motor would have to be running for the
WRU code to be recognised but there is an output to acknowledge that the
motor is running and on speed and there is another to 'say' there is
paper tape available.
There doesn't appear to be an output to say there is roll paper
present.  So hope that answer you question.

Not so much in the US but in UK and Europe it grips me when people talk
about a Teletype machine when they mean a teletypewriter or teleprinter.

The same problem exists when talking about vacuum cleaners and saying
Hoover when they are talking about a Dyson or one of some other
manufacturer.  I once worked with a guy who used to work for Hoover and
he told me of a person who called to report a fault with their hoover
when it turned out to be an Electrolux vacuum cleaner.  He used to say
to them, why don't you get a Hoover hoover and be done with it!

I'll get my coat!

Cheers,
