Hi Jeff,
Welcome! Pretty soon you might get into model 15s or 28s!
The 32 was designed for Telex. But telex runs at 50baud (66WPM). If you are copying ITTY, the 66WPM (telex standard) gear was probably changed over to a 60WPM (RTTY standard) gear at some point. (I have heard debate about how well a 66WPM machine can receive a 60WPM RTTY signal, but it certainly could not send correctly).
About hooking the 32 up to telex - you are in luck. Some smart people in Germany have recreated the telex network right down to the original voltages and signaling. You can even dial others around the world and have a telex conversation. And they can call you. The system is called i-Telex. A chap by the name of Henning (DF3OE) is active on Greenkeys and can get you started. (I expect he will respond shortly). You basically need to buy a few boards and wire up things (like appropriate power). It’s quite fun. You’d have to change the gear in your 32 back to 66WPM, but if you do that your 32 won’t be usable with your ST-6, so that’s something to think about... That’s where a model 15 or 28 comes in handy!
How’s your German? Actually, that’s not really a problem because others on Greenkeys have gone through it and can help you get going if you need help. And Henning is really helpful and speaks perfect English.
Welcome to the group! Glad you are here.
(OK - now all those on this list who are smarter than me will correct any errors that I made).
Paul

I'm into old computers, but really any old (and new) technology, and learning all I can about it. I have 2 Teletypes; one is a Model 43 that I actually have a funny story about, and the other is an ASR-32 I recently acquired, along with a Hal ST-6. I'd LOVE to find an ASR-33 some day.

I just have the Teletype itself, no paper tape reader or paper guides or anything, although that would be awesome to find as well. I do have a "quick reference manual" from MA Bell for the Model 43 that I can scan if anyone's interested. It doesn't have the internal modem either.

It likely needs a little love as it seems to "stick" on some keys sometimes, but it does print and punch tape well. While I have some basics on it, I gotta say the internal mechanisms definitely intimidate me! Being a 32 it has the rotary dial on it, and I'm really curious to learn if I can emulate the TWX/Telex lines to make it call someone. I do have a ham license (General) so I will definitely try to get the ST-6 on the air and try some RTTY sometime. I'd also like to emulate a 33 perhaps via an Arduino to convert ASCII to BAUDOT.

Hence I have an soft spot for all things telephony. It was there I got a Model 43 (back in the 90s) and used it to connect to BBSes while I was grounded from my computer at one point - "typing my homework ma!" lol.
