[GreenKeys] Introducing myself - Jeff

Hey guys and gals - figured I'd introduce myself. I joined the list a
couple weeks ago and made a couple replies, but have been busy with travel
since.

Anyway, my name is Jeff, and I'm a tech geek in the Philly suburbs who
likes both new and vintage stuff. I'm into old computers, but really any
old (and new) technology, and learning all I can about it. I have 2
Teletypes; one is a Model 43 that I actually have a funny story about, and
the other is an ASR-32 I recently acquired, along with a Hal ST-6. I'd LOVE
to find an ASR-33 some day.

The model 43 unfortunately is missing the fuse holder and ribbon, and I
haven't been to find any ribbons or parts for it (the fuse holder is
probably common). I just have the Teletype itself, no paper tape reader or
paper guides or anything, although that would be awesome to find as well. I
do have a "quick reference manual" from MA Bell for the Model 43 that I can
scan if anyone's interested. It doesn't have the internal modem either.

For the 32, I got it running by connecting it up with the ST-6 and for the
most part it seems to work. I was able to stream ITTY into the ST-6 and
have it print. It likely needs a little love as it seems to "stick" on some
keys sometimes, but it does print and punch tape well. While I have some
basics on it, I gotta say the internal mechanisms definitely intimidate me!
Being a 32 it has the rotary dial on it, and I'm really curious to learn if
I can emulate the TWX/Telex lines to make it call someone. I do have a ham
license (General) so I will definitely try to get the ST-6 on the air and
try some RTTY sometime. I'd also like to emulate a 33 perhaps via an
Arduino to convert ASCII to BAUDOT.

Long story short, I grew up next door to a recycling center that dealt with
a lot of scrap from MA Bell and Western Electric back in the 80s and 90s,
so I've seen a crazy amount of equipment and computers, and even still have
a couple items from there (they were friends and let me "go shopping" as a
kid). Hence I have an soft spot for all things telephony. It was there I
got a Model 43 (back in the 90s) and used it to connect to BBSes while I
was grounded from my computer at one point - "typing my homework ma!" lol.

Been enjoying reading up on some of the submissions and learning all I can!
I'm a younger guy (sorta) so hoping to perhaps be a tech historian to some
degree and pass the knowledge along.

Thanks!
