I have the following transfers planned so far

Bill Strangfeld - 1 case at Cincinnati
Jim Hammock - 2 cases at Dayton
Jim Taylor - 2 cases at Dayton
Kevin Dewitt - 1 case at Dayton

If I forgot anyone, or you'd like a case of free TTY paper, please let me
know
(2 rolls, white, 2-ply, carbonless copy).

If there is room I'll take along a couple of extra cases, hoping that I'll
run across some non-greenkeys TTY fans.

cheers,
Nick K4NYW

Don't forget to save some for your visit in November, or if Gene and I can visit before then!

Sorry to know that RTTY may have been missed, but we at NWVC were
"the last of the Mohicans" with
our SECDEF message on CW/25 wpm (tradition, OM..;-)) simultaneously
on 4007/6913. Could have had it
additionally on 13974.5 but it wasn't listed in the promo.

I am a TTY enthusiast but want the CW gang to have some reason for
listening....

Hey Jeff....not quite....

They may have stopped installing mod 15's in the mid-fifties. I
bought a truck load
of NIB TT-39s... (mod 15 s/r) back in the late sixties. Shipping
crates were stamped
1954 and never issued. All had 45 baud gears. It was fun putting those
machines together and hauling brand new machines to hamfests.

Plus my first ship in 1959 had no 15's...just M28s

I posted something just recently from a Weather Service site to the
effect that they are going to quit using all caps in weather messages.
But yes, the legacy of Teletype is the reason.

The M15 had some definite drawbacks for shipboard use - that heavy
type basket I'm told could be slung around as the ship pitched and
rolled. Which is probably why the entire production of Model 28s
early on went to the military; none were available for civilian use
until later.

faintly

Will purchase, or optionally trade a 67 WPM gear set I have for your 60 WPM gear set. Even better, how about selling a "gear shift" modification kit?

sitting around waiting two weeks for something that should take 3 days. :)

Hi

Mine haven't arrived yet, unfortunately the USPS tracking doesn't work
for most overseas destinations. I'll post here when they arrive.

what we need now is the one board 60 mil voltage source small
and cheap! assembled...

seriously will all the stuff I need to do ion a days and nights time I
really do not have that much time to build things,....

Eric's boards were an answer to a long uttered prayer!

the next thing that would be cool is one with wireless network
interface on it and sms? well maybe at least the wireless network.

for 80 percent of what I am doing these usb boards with the push
button to type message fill the bill.

This could be done if someone as a stash of low cost variable ww resistors
of about 1.5 K Ohms and 12.5 watts capacity.

Back in 2013 I decided I'd raid the parts stash for a power resistor and adjustable rheostat, then ordered a Hammond plastic project box and 1/4" insulated jacks off ebay <$10. Grabbed a mA meter there as well ($3.95) and ordered transformer 237-1270-ND from Digikey for $9.95. It may not have the efficiency of a modern design but it's served me well since then. Assembly time was less than an hour including drilling. I say go for it Ed! -Cory

While I have not tried them, ebay has some modules from China that might
just work for a local loop. Buy one of the modules which is just a circuit
board and look around for a 24 volt wall wart DC supply. The modules are
only about $ 2 to $ 6. Some of them can be adjusted for a constant current
and should be able to put out about 20 volts for the 60 ma loop.

I have played with a couple of just the voltage regulated supplies. If you
need to measure the current, then a low cost ma meter or even one of the
'free' ones from harbor freight could be used.

Here are some of the ebay links.

I would like to have a much higher voltage, but should be ok to run around
20 to 24 volts on a local loop. You might even be able to get some of the
modules to boost the 5 to 12 volt supplies to 30 volts or so. Sort of a
design waste, but not very expensive either if you have some low voltage
wall warts. Then all you need is a plastic box to put them in and maybe
some phone jacks.

I used a large empty pill bottle to put the computer to machine converter
board in.

You should be able to use one of those with my CL adapter board, but you'll need
a small current limiting resistor as the board already puts 187 ohms total in
series with the loop. (plus the dc resistance of the selector magnet coils, etc)

I have some concerns about using such a low voltage loop supply.? We are talking considerable inductance in the loop (the selector magnets) and the circuit time constant becomes such that it can take many milliseconds for the current to rise to the required 60 ma, which is why the "usual" recommended loop supply voltage is around (or above) 120 vdc (the higher the voltage, the faster the current can rise).? Check out pp 108 - 110 of the Tab Books RTTY Handbook for a discussion about this situation.? A fair constant current loop regulator is also shown, one in which the current can reach 90% of the 60 ma target within 2 milliseconds.? The cc circuit shown CAN function below 120 volts but the lower limit for it appears to be around 40 vdc (with the time constant due to magnet inductance being the major constraint).? I have seldom seem perfect copy from test tapes at this loop supply voltage.

BTW, if one needs to run a loop driving more than a single magnet, it is important to have the added magnet(s) in parallel with, rather than in series with, the first magnet, since placing the magnets in series dramatically increase the circuit time constant and degrades machine copy.

You should be able to use one of those with my CL adapter board, but you'll need
a small current limiting resistor as the board already puts 187 ohms total in
series with the loop. (plus the dc resistance of the selector magnet coils, etc)

I did just order a couple of the boards from China so should know something
in a few weeks. The boards are suppose to have an adjustment for the
current along with the voltage so an external resistor will not be needed as
if it was just a voltage board. It may not even work at all, but thought it
may be worth a try for about $ 10.

It was also mentioned in another post about using such a low voltage supply.
I know about the dv/dt (rise time) of the current, but if fed by almost
perfect waves from the converter it may stand a chance of working
,especially if the teletype uses the lower inductance of the holding coils.
I would like to have close to 100 volts or more, but did not see any modules
that would put out that kind of voltage and regulate the current for a few
dollars. I will have to look around and see if there are any.
