confused.... no giant resistor on the board. what board are we
discussing? do you mean r9? that little thing is really 2 watt? ok....
remember I am used to stuff with color bands on them have no experience
with surface mount stuff <<grin!>>

ok on the baud rate I mean the usb seemed to auto baud, i one machine
set term program for 9600 baud and it worked

other system i walked th board over to tem program set for 2400 baud
and it worked

which means the usb auto senses the terminal program baud rate>?

Ed,

Whether or not it needs the INF file appears random to me. Sometimes it
does, sometimes
it doesn't.

The baud rate is configured only via the setup menu. Windows' idea of the
baud rate
is completely ignored because Windows has no concept of most TTY baud
rates. The info
sheet shipped with the board goes into this in more detail.

The resistor in question is the big rectangular one on the top left part
of the
board. It is in series with the loop and samples the loop current as part
of a divider,
stealing just enough power to turn on the input of an optocoupler. It is a
2-watt,
150 ohm resistor.

You do not need to change it unless you are doing something really
unusual. It will
work for both 20ma and 60ma loops as is. The voltage across that resistor
will be,
by Ohm's law, approximately the loop current multiplied by the resistance
(150 ohms).
