Jack and Malcolm,

You guys come up with the toughest questions.

There were quite a few models of tape punches. Some you can control from the keyboard and manually. I have seen others that you could turn on from the keyboard, but not turn off manually and vice versa.

I think you could rig up a rubber band to hold the punch off mechanism from dropping.

Have you tried turning the punch on manually?

Malcolm Macleod and I are trying to duplicate DEC computer paper tape diagnostics on his ASR33. The data for the tapes is binary and includes code that is equivalent to the DC4 “punch off” command. When the teletype receives that code, it stops punching until it receives the equivalent of a DC2 “punch on” sequence. Apparently this behavior is expected for a machine with the “LOCK ON” option(?). How do we disable this mechanism so that the machine punches _ all _ data sent to it, ignoring control codes?

Thanks!

Jack
