Not baffling at all, Mark. All the Creed teleprinters I've seen have a
mechanical implementation of the idle line timer. On the Model 7 the
motor winds a little weight up until it operates a switch that turns the
motor off. It's held up by a latch that's released as soon as a space
signal comes in. The weight drops and turns the switch back on to start
the motor.
