I am sending you two pix of where to look. One has a piece of red tape next to the screw to just loosen up. By doing this, the bar can be moved slightly left and right to either shift or unshift on space. With luck you can use a small wrench and reach the screw as mine has a hex hed also. This can be done just by lifting the access cover just over the keyboard.

Trying to disable the unshift-on-space 'feature' on my M15 (ex-Bell System). I was given a description of the procedure by Jim Hanes, who I should mention has been extremely generous with his time and assistance.

I did my best to follow his advice, but so far I've been unable to turn USOS off.

His procedure involves locating the Space function bar (from above) then removing the printer unit and trace that bar to the bottom side. On the bottom, proximate to the function bar, there is a second metal bar about 2" long with a bend in the tip. This bar pivots on a single screw and has two positions - one where it engages a feature on the function bar, and one where it does not.

I moved the bar to engage the function bar, but this didn't disable USOS or have any other effect that I noticed. So I'm stuck..

Am I working with the wrong parts, or is something else causing this? Does anyone have a photo showing exactly what parts I need to be concerned with?
