The common 3-In-1 is SAE 10 mineral oil.  They also sell SAE 20 but it's 
harder to find.  The main thing wrong with it is that it is quite expensive.  
I've had a can of the 10 Weight for many years and it hasn't gone rancid.  
Looks just as it did when new.  Same with the SAE 20 but it's probably a 
decade newer.
