According to the MSDS 3 in 1 Household Oil is highly refined
naphthenic oil with some naphtha added, 3 in 1 Motor Oil, meant for
electric motors is highly refined paraffinic oil again with some naphtha
added. I think it is the small amount of naphtha that makes both
penetrating oils. The 20 weight electric motor oil is de-waxed. The
MSDS for 3 in 1 Houshold Oil AKA Multi-Purpose Oil says nothing about
whether the base oil is de-waxed. Now, Kano Labs Microil, described
as an instrument oil and recommended for typewriters, is about a 50-50
mixture of naphthenic and paraffinic oils but using different refining
techniques. Also, whatever was in 3 in 1 oil in the past its likely
something else now. BTW, 3 in 1 is made by the WD-40 company.
