be interesting to see if the nos ones have suffered some breakdown too
also.... or if it just an effect of the oil on the ones that are
mounted in units... I can not say... maybe George can weigh in on
this....

I have a quote from a source that says he has 50 of these 173979 heads -
New Old Stock.
$9 ea. Is that out of line? Would you guys want some at that price?
I am checking elsewhere among other sources of NOS govt spare parts

No not the ball peen hammer you use for fine adjustments, the one that
whacks the underside of the tape into the ribbon and typewheel -
There is a plastic head that fits onto the hammer shaft - shaft 173980,
head 173979
The parts book says these are part of 176138 mod kit (see spec 50029S)
Q1: So I am curious - does anyone have a copy of 50029S? I presume it is
all about replacing the old style 156476 metal hammer
Q2: And more importantly, has anyone discovered a supply of 173979 heads
that haven't crumbled into powder? Or suggested alternatives? I see this is
a perpetual topic in the archives - was there ever a solution?
Was the old metal head so bad? At least it wouldn't crumble to mush....
Thanks
