My experience with the 173979 hammer heads is that inasmuch as they are
aged for about the same time as the ones I have seen/used, I submit that the
ones for 9 dollars each would be a nice profit for the vendor, but it would
be at best iffy as to whether or not they would hold up for any period of
time.
When the material that they were made of ages, it seems to retire whether
or not it has had much use. Looks and works good, and then POOF!!! they are
dust.
Just my opinion/experience.

I have a quote from a source that says he has 50 of these 173979 heads -

No not the ball peen hammer you use for fine adjustments, the one that
whacks the underside of the tape into the ribbon and typewheel -
There is a plastic head that fits onto the hammer shaft - shaft 173980,
head 173979
The parts book says these are part of 176138 mod kit (see spec 50029S)
Q1: So I am curious - does anyone have a copy of 50029S? I presume it is
all about replacing the old style 156476 metal hammer
Q2: And more importantly, has anyone discovered a supply of 173979 heads
that haven't crumbled into powder? Or suggested alternatives? I see this is
a perpetual topic in the archives - was there ever a solution?
Was the old metal head so bad? At least it wouldn't crumble to mush....
Thanks
