Hi Hope you all have had a good year and will have a good new year.
Well I'll be 38 yrs over 40 coming up this Feb.
I have always, can't remember when, possibly in the Cub or Boy scouts I made
crystal sets, and one Christmas my aunt and uncle gave me, I believe it was
a Heath kit 10 in1 kit with 3 tubes and a breadboard it had 10 different
electronic projects and if you made another project unsolder the wires and
put new ones in, Weller soldering gun ws-100 with 2 bulbs pistol grip solder
iron and a roll of solder. (I can still remember my mom was upset that I
might burn the house down, but I didn't.)Ha I still use it.
Graduated H.S. in 1955, at Crescent city, Cal., went three semesters to "Cal
Poly" studying Electronic Engineering, at that time it was an all men's
college, I had a girlfriend back home, wasn't able to go home on weekends,
late night studies so needless to say I quite college and went back home.
Had to go to work and with Crescent City being a small town there wasn't
anything that pertained to electronic engineering, other than the telephone
company, and at that time it was West Coast Telephone Co. I did get a job
on the "Line Crew" digging holes and
climbing poles with belt and hooks (We didn't have an arguer or a "cherry
picker). At that time the company installed the telephones, wiring,
multi-line phones, teletypes and other equipment. After awhile I was able
to put a bid in to become a phone Installer-repairman.
That's when I got introduced to the teletypes. Gen Tele did have their
training schools in Everett, Wash., I had 1 week of learning how to shoot
trouble and routine them.
Our office served Del Norte County Sheriff's Office with an M15 can't
remember KSR or ASR, 75 speed, it had a good sized relay cabinet with WE
type relays. It was the stunt box. FAA with an M28ASR, 100 speed and other
business's with private line M15 ASR KSR TTY's.
Right now I have:
1-M28 ASR with 2-8.5 paper, 1-6.5paper tab
1-M15 KSR Western Union Floor with printer
1-M15 KSR Table Top with printer
1- opened box 14.5 tab paper (if interested e-mail me)
1- ST3 & AK-1 by K8NQW MODEM
1- HAL ST5000 MODEM
2- MODEM from Eric Volpe
1-ICOM IC-746 Radio SR
