Jim,
If I might be so bold, I think you have your old and new types mixed up
unless anyone else knows differently.
AFAIK, Jones plugs came into use during WW2 and the other type, which I know
as Painton came in the 50s and 60s.
Jones plugs come in sizes from 1 way to 12 way and were used on receivers
(R1132 & R1155) and transmitter/receivers (TR1143 & TR1196) during the WW2
years.
Painton plugs were made by a number of manufacturers including Plessey and
Cinch and I think are best described as Miniature Jones and come in many
configurations from 2 way to 33 way.
More confusion comes because the traditional WW2 Jones plugs are now
manufactured by Cinch in USA and were available from Farnell in their
extended stock range from US where they charge an extra £15.95 per order but
I'm not sure if they still sell them.
The 33 way Painton plug in the attached picture is the type that Dave has on
his Creed 7B.
My 2p worth.
73,
Alf
