Hey guys,
Made some more progress on my 15...
Following the manual, I got the type bar basket out...

It took a bath in the ultrasonic machine...cleaned up really nice. A couple of the lesser used type bars are still a little stiff, but should be fine after they get lubed (I think). Main shaft removal is next...should be pretty easy to lube/clean/polish the rest of the typing unit with those two parts out.

Finished restoring the motor plate...

Here's what it looked like when I started:

And here it is all done:

The black wrinkle paint is a real bear to work with, but when it come out right it looks great. How much wrinkle you get depends on the temp of the part, the thickness of the paint coat, and how fast you make it dry...it's as much an art as a science. It's almost worse than spraying metallic car paint. If you mess it up, you might as well sand it off and start over. Looks great though. It filled the awful pits in the plate really well. I have an old toaster over out in the garage for heating small parts, and I used that to try the paint on it. Also restored the tag for it...

After:

I sprayed it with black engine enamel and used 2000 grit wet sandpaper to get the paint off the high spots. Turned out pretty nice. The motor is all mounted back up to it. I made a mini electrolysis setup on my stove with a yogurt container to clean up the screws for it...it worked great! (wife was working late lol).

I ordered the fuse for it from Amazon, and it should be here next week I think. Stripping the base is probably next. Should turn out really nice too if I can get the paint to work.

Also looking for an original Send/Receive/Break switch and bracket if anyone has one to sell...

I also read the info on emulating old mainframes...anybody know if there's any way to hook a Flexowriter up to an RS-232 for something like that? I'm guessing not, but I'm just curious...
