[GreenKeys] Ouch, 28ASR....... high dollar!

I do not know if it is that the sellers "think" that they have a fortune, or that they are simply waiting for the right um, buyer with more dollars than sense to come along and purchase it from them.

If it is the size that attracts folks, (snicker), I have a four year old Maytag POS front loading HE washer (that cost me 1100 USD and that would cost close to 1000 to replace the busted main bearing and drain pump) that weighs God knows how much and that is waiting for that right sucker with a wallet full of cash to take it off of my back porch. Otherwise, I am giving it away to the first scrapper that comes my way with an old beat up pickup truck full of guard-rails and AC compressor units of dubious origin to haul it off.

To me, TTY enthusiasts are so willing to help each other with their machines that the prices found on e-pay are out of touch with reality. Of course, the shipping cost is another matter all together.

Best,

Joe

So what the heck is going on with high dollar Teletype gear these days?  Stuff is going for allot higher prices on Ebay than I ever thought it would.

I am not an expert; but based on what I do know, I can perhaps formulate a hypothesis as to why TTY gear is going for $BIGBUX.

In the case of ASCII machines, the answer is pretty simple, computer people and especially classic computer people are very interested in them, specifically the Model 33 machines (though in my case I'm more interested in a 35, since I'd rather my terminal be built like a tank as opposed to like a Trabant).

In the case of the "Baudot" (let's not go into specifics of which five-bit code it speaks) machines, I'm going to guess that the high costs are in part because of "dear God it's huge, it must be worth $BIGBUX" (i.e. anything resembling a Model 28) and for the relatively more compact Model 15 and Model 14 gear its "~~@@~~LOOK~~R at RE~~VINT at GE!~~" on the part of the seller who thinks they have a veritable fortune on their hands.

But that's all my -- probably incorrect -- opinion.

Cheers,
Christian
