Are they really "going" for these high prices, or are these just
"asking" prices? There are many, many thousands of grossly overpriced
items listed on Ebay by sellers who are just "fishing", and which will
never move. On the other hand, these high price listings can sometimes
influence markets. Occasionally, someone gets a "hit" on some overpriced
item, and the news travels fast amongst other potential listers who are
trying to decide how to price their item. The occasional high priced
sale may influence some other well-heeled but desperate buyer to overpay
on a subsequent item, and the next thing you know, the market has
shifted upward like some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy.
