I am not an expert; but based on what I do know, I can perhaps formulate a
hypothesis as to why TTY gear is going for $BIGBUX.
In the case of ASCII machines, the answer is pretty simple, computer people
and especially classic computer people are very interested in them,
specifically the Model 33 machines (though in my case I'm more interested
in a 35, since I'd rather my terminal be built like a tank as opposed to
like a Trabant).
In the case of the "Baudot" (let's not go into specifics of which five-bit
code it speaks) machines, I'm going to guess that the high costs are in
part because of "dear God it's huge, it must be worth $BIGBUX" (i.e.
anything resembling a Model 28) and for the relatively more compact Model
15 and Model 14 gear its "~~@@~~LOOK~~R at RE~~VINT at GE!~~" on the part of the
seller who thinks they have a veritable fortune on their hands.
But that's all my -- probably incorrect -- opinion.
Cheers,
Christian
