If you happen to have one of those little grease guns that is used to grease the sproket nose on a chain saw bar they work very well for greasing tty motors

David,

Here is the Teletype specification I was relating to... What they are
saying is that you should use grease if you can, but not having a gun
to inject the grease, use the oil.
That is why I was advertising the hand-sized grease gun that can be
purchased from several sources on eBay and also from Harbor Freight
Tools.

KS-7471 grease was about the same as wheel bearing grease. KS-7470
Oil was non-detergent SAE 20 motor oil.
I recommend lithium based bearing grease and One Lube for the oil,
made by the Slick 50 folks.

Best,
Don

"Roger That"!  (Got 'em downstairs).

As for lithium grease on the motor bearings, I was following Teletype:
<p3140037a.jpg>
 From this antique Bulletin..
<p3140038a.jpg>

The lubrication section begins:
<p3140041a.jpg>

And for motors, it says:
<p3140040a.jpg>

So what's the current thinking? In 1941 there was no lithium grease,
and we use it now instead of oil because Teletype would have specified
it (or did later?) if it had been available back then?

(I'm not questioning your judgment...just want to know what the
thinking is!)

..Dave
