Question on the Model 15 AP machines:

Recently, my AP news loop from Heavy Metal opened and the machine ran 
"open".  When it runs open, it also continuously rings the bell.

Rice has a Model 15 AP machine too and his does the same thing on open loop. 
Question....did AP rig these machines to ring the bell as an alarm when the 
loop opens?  That's Rice's suggestion and it makes sense.

Any input is appreciated.
