I think you guys are correct. Many times the machines were in places
where they were not continuously monitored. Obviously a newspaper
or radio station would not want the incoming open loop to go unnoticed.
I also think that a momentary break in the line signal would ring the
bell.
When I get my M20 KSR wired up I will let you know.
The base and typing unit were AP but the keyboard was UPI.
