I picked a random Signal Corps manual and looked up Lubrication.
>From TM11-2215 dated June, 1951, Teletypewriters TT-5/FG and TT-6/FG, Chapter 3 page 69
"39. Recommended Lubricants...
... KS-7470 Oil, Lubricating Teletype Part No. 88970*
OE 10 Oil, Engine, SAE 10.*
*When the temperature is so high that lubricating oil (KS7470) runs off the parts, engine oil (OE 10) may be substituted."
That seems kinda funny to me. Personally, I use the Blue and White 3-n-1 SAE 20.

It is indeed too light forTeletype use. However the 3-in-1 brand also has a 20 wt oil ina blue and white can and that seems to be quite usable.jhhaynes at earthlink dot netYES Jim...I agree, the problem is that the blue and white can is not as well distributed as the red-white-black can.Teletype specs specified 10 weight oil if the machine was running in a very cold climate. They evensuggested adding kerosine if the temperatures dropped significantly. I believe these recommendationswere for signal corps machines used in military tactical applications perhaps in Alaska or Greenland.DonK9TTY
