[GreenKeys] [Boatanchors] Lots of WECO stuff

Golden Audio seems to provoke an eternal discussion, but I feel compelled to
toss in a few observations - it is a demonstrable fact that level matching
is extremely important in audio comparisons - louder (by just 0.1 db) is
almost always rated by listeners as "better sounding". And speaker and
listener placement have a dramatic effect on the sound that gets to your
ears. Which makes serious comparisons in a hi-fi store pretty difficult.

I was once having a lunchtime discussion about sensory perception with a
couple of friends. My position was that your mental state influences your
perception of a stimulus. Another person was strongly of the opinion that
since the stimulus is strictly a physical effect, mental state is irrelevant
to the process. We paused in the discussion and I started eating dessert -
my pal asked "How is it?" I said "Pretty good, but I'm not really a fan of
banana pudding". She took a bite of hers and spit it out as horrible tasting
- and then I calmly said "That actually is perfectly good pineapple pudding.
And I rest my case."
cheers,
Nick
who finds the olfactory, auditory, and visual stimulation of a working Model
28 perfectly delightful.
