Try this link .... a Function box primer....
http://www.rtty.com/development/books/stuntbox.pdf
...on RTTY dot COM ...page 7 lists the ?6 main functions
it dosent identify the "on Blank" function slot but it is
one of the main funcions... (that is "inhibit space on blank"
if my memory serves me right)
I dont think your looking for slot 22 though...
you can see a marking on every 10th slot...
...all of the pictures posted
of your ASR and KSR have "22" empty from left or right....
I havent opened a manual in quite a few years but saw this problem
happen several times a week when I was working the
off-line bays of the cold war...
what is happening is "space on blank" (how about space on "LTRS/FIGS")
this may be caused by a bad function bar...
or a faulty latch leaver
or a faulty function pawl...
or a weak/unattached latching pawl spring...etc
...there are three or four parts that can be worn or broken....
ALSO... the spacing clutch could be faulty...
looking at these pictures... (the rear of the assembly)
the group of function bars on the left is the NNNN function set...
the grouping on the right side (viewed from the back of the machine)
is located right above the "spaceing clutch"....
so the likely candidate area to start looking...
BTW
a "blank" function bar has no tines...
a "spaceing" function bar will have "tines in place"
I think that "primer" shows the function bar codeing...
Ive seen a manual on line of the parts book....
a good place to look...
espceially the funcion box /or/ the main shaft layout...
someone here may remember the webb address and re-post it...

> This is controlled by slot number 22 - it surpresses spacing on blank characters or during an open loop condition or when the break key is held down.

> Check to see what's happening by temporarily lifting the paper roll out of the way and watching to see if slot? 22 is working correctly.
