   Soaking in kerosene is traditional, although the selector magnet
and perhaps the platen probably shouldn't go through that process.
Removing the selector magnet is touchy, because you have to go through
a very precise set of adjustments when you put it back.

    I've had good results with washing in Simple Green.  See

That's a milder solvent than kerosene, less hazardous, and you don't
have a disposal problem.

    The right tool for the job is an industrial parts washer, which most
garages have.

That would do the job in a few minutes.  With the new aqueous
solvents, the rubber and wood parts shouldn't be harmed.  Those things
are basically industrial-strength dishwashers.  See
