[GreenKeys] Totally OT!: 2M PL?

Hi guys,

 

Sorry for the OT. I am looking to venture into the brave world of VHF. I am
thinking of getting a 2 meter HT. It happens to be a military unit (which is
why I like it) While this HT supports split frequencies, it does not have
support for PL (CTCSS) tones.

 

If I want to use repeaters, will this be a problem? Will it not key up the
repeater unless I can program in these tones? What about listening? My radio
will open up the squelch when it hears a signal (without tone).  

 

What do I need to know?
