Ah, yes, Steve. Takes me back too. Those were the days of REAL line 
cords. Mind you tinsel wire is still around. My son managed to rip the 
lead to the remote sensor on his WII. When I came to rejoin it I found 
that it was tinsel wire.

Very fiddly to join. I usually burn the cotton/ nylon centre out with a 
flame and then carefully scrape the foil until it's clean enough to solder.
