That might be easy to come by in the USA, but firearms are so tightly
regulated in the UK to make this near to impossible. It is so difficult to
get hold of guns that the thugs have taken to using knives (our PM met with
police chiefs yesterday to tackle the issue of "knife crime").

FWIW, there is a similar problem in lubricating distributors in older
classic cars. I used to be a member of the Jaguar mailing list, and a
regular problem was the spring timing advance mechanism on the V12 engine
distributor siezing, leading to the engine power dropping and also
overheating. The problem was gummy grease - cooked by the heat of the
engine into a tar like goo. Once soaked free, the list gurus worked out
that the best stuff to relube with was dry graphite powder, also something
used in firearm maintenance apparently. Fortunately this is available in
the UK - it is sold to lubricate locks since regular 3in1 attracts dust and
debris and also goes gooey (and dirty on your key).
