<grin>! They do smell of rancid garlic when they go bad, don't they....
An old friend at University (now a Professor at Southampton) back in the
'70s bought a second hand evaporator for the lab, and set about cleaning it
out. Wire brush job. What he didn't know was that it had been used for
evaporating selenium (possibly for rectifier production), and he ingested a
decent amount. Of course, it is poisonous stuff - but that was not the
worst effect - he smelt really stongly of garlic for many weeks afterwards!
