[GreenKeys] Unusual TD's

All this talk about older gear made me remember of a couple of 14TD's  
I picked up from Meshna or some surplus place back in the 70's.  The  
distributor disc was "odd".  Instead of the normal bit segments, each  
data bit had a small segment that made contact with the brush, or it  
may have been several small segments per bit.  (That explained it  
being at a price I could afford)  I don't remember anything else  
about these units that were out of the ordinary, not sure if they had  
a different number of brushes or not.  They were normal self  
contained units with governed motors.

What would these TDs have been used for?
