    "Displaced" may not be correct.  Look at the first two hits on Google 
for "AUTODIN".  The information there says AUTODIN was officially closed 
last year (2003)!  The map shows most of the worldwide switching centers 
being closed from 1992 to 1999.

    I had the impression the two networks had different users:  AUTODIN 
carried military messages such as orders for spare parts and administrative 
messages, while ARPANET provided for interchange of data between defense 
projects at educational institutions.
