On the left hand side of your machine (facing the keyboard) is a small
trap-door a few inches below the Crank. Behind it is a curved metal arc,
with a thumbscrew and pointer. It is marked from 0 to 120 on mine. This
is the 'range adjustment' that sets where the pulse train actually syncs
up with the mechanical parts.
To copy 50 baud, one adjusts this setting out of the 'normal' range of
35 - 55 (at least on my machine) until the shorter start pulses trigger
the printer.
Now - I've tried this, and not had much luck with it, but it was some
years back, and too many variables to control. Your Milage May (probably
will) Vary.
Also, I would suggest at some point you get a copy of TM 11-2216
"TELETYPEWRITERS TT-7/FG and TT-8/FG" and TM 11-680 "TELETYPEWRITER
CIRCUITS AND EQUIPMENT (FUNDAMENTALS)". These are Army Technical Manuals
which cover the Model 15 and 19 specifically, and TTY Stuff in general.
Shouldn't be too hard to find among the Manual Reprinter Services that
sell on eBay and elsewhere.
Cheers
