I've long had a bit of an interest in railroading. It's got electricity
and machinery, just like Teletypes. :-)
On a few occasions I have visited a few of the railroad museums in the
area and taken a ride if they actually have operating equipment. Some
of the railroads still have some telephone/telegraph lines running along
the right of way. Usually in disarray and never used.

Of course, this gets me thinking about how telegraphs and Teletypes
were used in railroading. And for the few museums that still have
trackage with telegraph lines, why would they not include such utilities
for a complete display?

I live in Maryland now, but lived in Michigan and Wisconsin for quite
a few years before coming out here. When you said McHenry county, it
sounded familiar, so I looked it up on the map. I-90 catches it in
the south-west corner and I have traveled that route many times going
from Madison to Chicago or Michigan.

McHeny County is the location of the Illinois Railway Musesum,
http://www.irm.org "America's Largest Railway Museum".

Well, it is just an idea, but if you are living out there you can
give us a report on what they might have in their displays, or if
it's nothing maybe you can convince them that communications are important
to railroading.

I don't recall what we'd said on this topic on Greenkeys, but I would be
interested in hearing if anyone has seen telegraph or Teletype or
telephone displays integrated into any working railroad museums or
tourist railroads.
