What I could not remember is if the mainshaft gear could slide
off the end of the mainshaft without having to take the mainshaft
out of the printer unit. I just could not remember how much room
there was up under there. I remembered it was only three screws,
tho!
I never saw any cup shaped mainshaft gears. They were always made
of phenolic or something like that, with engine cut teeth. The teeth did
have a slide concave curve, to match the curve of the motor shaft gear.
By the way, it was AP practice to take a few of these mainshaft gears from
the parts stock and soak them in oil, for days on end, prior to using them.
The oil would penetrate the phenolic and give longer life to the gear.
Thanks for adding to this. I am having to recall all this from memory without
any reference materials.
