[Gonset] Cleaning Metal Knobs?

I have had pretty good luck using a product called "Bar Keepers Friend" which is available at most supermarkets.  Scrubbing using the powder mixed with a little water with a toothbrush seems to get the old metal knobs back into shape.

The knobs are corroded.
 
What is the best way to restore them, please?
 
I don't want to harm them by using the wrong chemical or other method.
