First try to read everything you can find on the subject. www.homingin.com
is good place to start and end. Joe Moell, who is homingin has also written
a book, although outdated, it is thorough and all inclusive. Not much new
technology has happened since. Try www.amazon.com and Joe Moell.

You are kinda in the middle of nowhere. My son-in-law started a hunting
group in southern Illinois a few years ago but it died out. If you have a
ham club see if you can stir some interest. It will only take 3-4 to get a
thing going. Buy a group transmitter (Squawkbox by
http://www.silcom.com/~pelican2/PicoDopp/MICROHUNT.htm, ($150) and comeup
with your individual hunting gear. Pass the transmitter around. Using two 20
inch clip leads as the antenna you can hear this thing for 5-10 miles if it
is hung 5-7 ft off the ground in a bush or if you can get it higher it will
reach further.

You can build a hunting antenna out of PVC pipe and a tapemeasure and an
attenuator as described in Joes book or elsewhere on the internet. (Or get a
hold of Marvin on here, I think he still has a few kits available).

I really believe it is the most fun you can have with your radio on..
