27.255 is used for telemetry.  I've seen burglar alarm systems there, 
with a range of several miles to remote receivers scattered throughout a 
large area.  I think these send a timed burst periodically even if no 
alarm is present.

Surprisingly robust considering the noise and interference in that band.
