There is an issue going into Canada (GST).  There should be no duty (NAFTA) 
however if you ship anything other than the mail, the package will have to 
go through UPS brokerage and that will cost.  The package should be 
declared as no value (thus the trade off is insurance) and/or a gift.
In any case the Ham in question should contact US customs (not you) for 
details.
