  My experiences with United Parcel Service, uniformly recommends 

shipping via UPS, insure fully, let them buy you another one
(used) when they trash your shipment.
   (works great for those `hard to repair' pieces of equipment)

  They might have caught on to what some of us have been doing 

for years.  Too bad.
