Ron... I have an HW-9 and it can be keyed by the PICO Keyer. See link:
http://www.hamgadgets.com/product_info.php?products_id=51&osCsid=189d1e4

It is a kit... and please don't be intimidated by the long list of
things it will do. You'll need to build a cable to go from the keyers
output to the key jack on the back of the HW-9. Your paddles plug into
the jack on the pico keyer.
Another option is the Nor-Cal QRP club keyer:
http://www.norcalqrp.org/nckeyer.htm
It does about the same thing... I know that a pot can be attached to
this kit to provide sending speed by adjusting the pot.
Both are good kits
One day I will incorporate this kind of keyer in my HW-9... but I don't
want to drill any holes for the button or pot.
I hope this helps. Regards,

Gang ...
I have a Heathkit HW 9 and on keyer line is 9 VDC.
Does someone own one of these, figured out how to connect a
electronc keyer to it, like CMOS-4?
Right now I'm using the bug (almost 50 years old).
