[Fists] CQ ALL Fists

I agree with you Rich. Especially if it is a monitored frequency.

But I also agree with Mike, sending CQ CQ de KA1ABC - with one call sign
sent doesn't work.

Commercial proceedures for calling on a monitored frequency were to call the
STATION twice and sign your OWN CALL twice also.

I think this would be an excellent advice to follow:

CQ FISTS CQ FISTS de KA1ABC KA1ABC K
-or-
CQ CQ FISTS de KA1ABC KA1ABC K

Interestingly, commercial CW practice had another "prosign" that was used
for just calling a group of stations. It was the "restricted call" as
opposed to the "general call" and was the letters CP as opposed to CQ.

I think few would understand if someone where to call:

CP CP FISTS de KA1ABC KA1ABC K

Hams use a word to restrict their CQ - but actually a CQ is a general call -
to ALL stations -

Now having contacted someone, to be a monitored frequency, you will have to
move OFF frequency - otherwise no one is going to continue to monitor the
frequency!

I wonder if anyone can instruct FISTS members in how to contact on "058" and
then move off frequency to continue their contact.

My general routine, especially on a popular frequency, is to throw out
an abbreviated cq, such as <cq cq cq cq de n8ux n8ux K>. If no
response (or no one telling me to buzz off), I'll follow up with a longer
call, like <cq cq cq de n8ux cq cq cq cq de n8ux n8ux K>.

Of course all this is preceded with a qrl, and judicious listening. No,
really.

I'd say that 75 percent of the time, I get a bite on the first salvo,
unless
I'm qrp - in which case I'm usually not cq'ing anyway.

I'm 41, but old enough to remember the days when I could ID an op
just by hearing the cq's. Ah, the good *old* days - the early eighties-hi!

Keep it fun -
