[Fists] why DXpeditions use cw?

There is another technical preference for CW.
When working a pile you can distinguish different calls by as little as
50 to 100 Hz in the pile. Each has a separate tone/sound. So, you can
work up a pile without a lot of RX tuning.
Listen to close spaced stations on CW. You can certainly distinguish as
little as 100 Hz. Try that on SSB!
I find it much much easier to work DX, Rare DX, on CW than on SSB.
BTW, a 500 Hz CW bandwidth provides about -6 dB of HF background Noise
reduction compared to a 3 kHz SSB signal. That translates to + 6dB in
the signal to noise ratio.

Is it because most of the hi-profile operators "grew up" with cw or are there some logistical reasons that make the mode the most practical? I'm not trying to express any opinion - just quite curious - thanks for any input folks.
