John: I think you misunderstood when you heard the DX station say "FISTS
ONLY". He has that right, and he like many others, are seeking the
new award and was looking for more points. I cannot fault him for that.
Sure, we are a club that purports courtesy, etc., but some who are
looking for certain contacts for awards are Free to say FISTS ONLY" and
in my opinion, that is okay. When I am operarting the club station W5YA,
I call CQ FISTS and when someone else answers me, I come back and
explain that I am trying to give out points for the extra credit that
members are looking for and usually give him/her the web page so they
can join the fun. If someone thinks wqe are being snobbish, trying
calling an FOC member during their contest.

Stan:
Absolutely, totally, metaphysically INCORRECT. One of the stated
purposes of the FISTS club is to "Encourage the use of CW." If we
are going to reject QSO's with non-members, therefore leaving that
person with a bad CW experience, we may as well tell him "go back
to SSB and get out of my hair!" I have called "CQ FISTS" myself,
but have never failed to return to a non-FISTS member, usually
inviting him/her to join during the QSO.
If getting our Gold, Silver, Platinum, Ruby, Plutonium, or what ever
the award Element or Mineral of the Year is, is so important that we
cannot have a QSO with an unwashed non-FISTS member, then we
have outlived our usefulness as an organization with the goal of
"Encouraging the use of CW."
Three whacks with the Wouff Hong for you!
